SAN JUAN BAUTISTA

The Anzar boys soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to St. Francis CCC of Watsonville on Tuesday in non-conference action.

The loss drops the Hawks to 1-1 on the season.

“It was a pretty even match,” Anzar head coach Carlos Vargas said. “But in the first half, we lost the midfield, which complicated our offensive [plans]. St. Francis took advantage and scores two goals.

“In the second half, we took control of the midfield and we had several scoring chances.”

But the Hawks could not deposit a goal in the latter stanza.

Anzar will travel to San Jose on Friday to take on Silver Creek at 3:15 p.m.

AHS Girls Soccer

The Anzar High girls soccer team, falling behind early to visiting Alisal on Wednesday, could not find the equalizer against the Trojans and lost 1-0 in non-conference play.

The Trojans pocketed the game’s lone goal in the 20th minute, then held on for the remaining 60 minutes to escape San Juan Bautista with the tight victory.

Anzar falls to 2-3-1 overall as a result.

The Hawks will return to the pitch on Friday at home, when they will take on Pajaro Valley at 3:30 p.m.
