GILROY
In the midst of the most difficult part of its Coast Conference schedule, the Gavilan College men’s soccer team played to a scoreless tie against visiting De Anza College Wednesday in Gilroy.
Gavilan College head coach Albert Marques said the Rams dominated the first half, and had several scoring opportunities after a couple balls hit the post.
“We definitely had some opportunities,” he said. “We just came up a little bit short today.”
The tie pushes the Rams’ record to 2-3-2 in the Coast Conference, 3-7-3 overall. Despite not picking up a win against a strong De Anza team, though, the Rams are well ahead from where they were last season, when they compiled an 0-12-2 record in the conference.
“We’re playing really solid soccer right now,” Marques said. “The team is gelling and everyone is on the same page.
“This is the hardest part of the year, and we’re really happy with the progress.”
Gavilan will visit Hartnell College in Salinas on Friday at 4 p.m.
