The under-11 Hollister Aftershocks celebrate after winning the Santa Cruz Beach Soccer Pro-Am.

The under-11 girls Hollister Aftershocks, a competitive travel team from the Hollister Tremors Soccer Club, continued its offseason roll in preparation for the next fall season over the weekend in Santa Cruz.

The Aftershocks won their second-consecutive beach soccer championship in two weeks at Santa Cruz on Sunday. Over the two weekends of play, the Aftershocks went a combined 12-0.

At the Santa Cruz Beach Soccer Pro-Am championship game Sunday against a Bay Area team, the Aftershocks never trailed and won 7-5. Playing in a three-period game, the Aftershocks jumped out to a 5-2 lead behind goals by Carly Lowi, Monica Corral, Olivia Sanchez, Nicole Morrel and Kailey Morrel.

The Aftershocks, though, needed a pair of goals by Stephanie Caspillo to clinch the victory in the final period.

“I’m very proud of how the girls played,” head coach David Lowi said. “They’ve been playing really well, and having a lot of fun.”

The two tournament victories come after the Aftershocks won a championship during the indoor soccer season in Watsonville. The Aftershocks went 7-1.

Under-13 Spirit

The competitive Hollister under-13 girls soccer team concluded its spring season Sunday by claiming the District II Spring Cup in Morgan Hill.

The Spirit compiled a 9-0 record throughout the spring to finish first in the Bronze Division of the California Youth Soccer Associations Coast league. The first place finish propelled the Spirit to the District Cup’s Silver bracket, where they went 2-1 in pool play. Their record landed them a spot in Sunday’s championship game in Morgan Hill.

The Spirit won the title by defeating the UC Premier Gladiators 3-1 in Morgan Hill on Sunday. The Gladiators struck first with a goal early in the second half but the Spirit responded with three-straight goals to take control of the game.

“This team showed a lot of character and perseverance to come out on top,” head coach Matt Peterson said. “(That’s) something both the coaches and parents are very proud of.”
