A no-hitter by Megan Sabbatini and a bat-around third inning
that saw Jessica Vest connect on two homers was all the San Benito
High softball team needed on Tuesday, as the host Haybalers pounded
out nine hits en route to a 12-0 victory over Alisal in Hollister.
The game was called in the fifth inning due to the 10-run rule. The
shortened, comfortable victory for San Benito supplies the team
with at least a share of the Tri-County Athletic League title. At
10-0 in the TCAL, 24-1 overall, the Balers need to win one of their
remaining two games in order to claim the league crown
outright.

A no-hitter by Megan Sabbatini and a bat-around third inning that saw Jessica Vest connect on two homers was all the San Benito High softball team needed on Tuesday, as the host Haybalers pounded out nine hits en route to a 12-0 victory over Alisal in Hollister.

The shortened, comfortable victory for San Benito supplies the team with at least a share of the Tri-County Athletic League title. At 10-0 in the TCAL, 24-1 overall, the Balers need to win one of their remaining two games in order to claim the league crown outright.

San Benito will host Everett Alvarez, which is currently 2-7 in the TCAL, for a doubleheader on Friday afternoon to wrap up the regular season.

Tuesday’s no-doubt-about-it win over Alisal, meanwhile, supplied the Balers with their second straight league title.

Megan Sabbatini tossed five shutout, no-hit innings to lead the Balers. Although she hit two of the 18 batters she faced, she also managed to strike out 12 others.

At the plate, San Benito picked up two runs in the first and one in the second before exploding with a nine-run third frame. San Benito batted around in the inning and witnessed Jessica Vest blast two homers.

Vest’s first homer was a two-run shot, while her second — later that inning — was a three-run shot. The senior shortstop finished with five RBIs and three runs scored.

Meanwhile, Marissa Adame connected on two hits, including a double, and knocked in two runs, while Mari Vallejo knocked in a pair of runs as well. Brittany Hoff had a multi-hit game with a double and a triple with one RBI, while Nicole Rianda also had an RBI.

Prior to competing in next week’s Central Coast Section Division I Championships, San Benito will finish its regular season at home to Everett Alvarez. The first of two games Friday will begin at 3 p.m.
