San Benito has one game remaining in pool play. It will square off against Schurr High School of Montebello, Calif., on Friday morning at 11 a.m. From there, bracketed play begins.
In other news, the Balers improved upon their top-50 national standing this week, and are currently ranked No. 25 nationally in the Powerade Fab 50, according to ESPN RISE.
Last week, San Benito entered the top-50 rankings at No. 33, and were listed as the highest ranked newcomer on the poll. But after wins over North Salinas and Salinas, the Balers moved up eight spots to the No. 25 position.
It is the second highest ranking the Balers have received. In 2007, following a 32-3 season in which it won its second straight Central Coast Section title, San Benito finished with the No. 50 ranking by Rivals.com. Then, to open the 2008 season the following year, the Balers garnered the No. 23 ranking in the StudentSports.com Fab 50 national softball rankings.
