After only two years playing softball at Oklahoma, former San Benito standout Jessica Vest is already on top of the college landscape.
The No. 1 seeded Oklahoma Sooners won the NCAA national championship Tuesday, defeating No. 7 Tennessee 4-0, sweeping the championship series 2-0 over the Lady Volunteers at ASA Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City.
Vest, who started at shortstop, finished hitless in two at-bats. She only needed to make two plays in the field.
The Sooners’ victory was led by the world series’ Most Outstanding Player Keilani Ricketts. The senior from San Jose’s Archbishop Mitty didn’t, though, make her mark in the circle. Ricketts finished 1-for-4 driving in all four Sooner runs. Her third inning 3-run home run made the difference for the Sooners.
The championship is the second in school history and the first since 2000. The Sooners reached the championship series a year ago, but lost in three games to Alabama.
The Sooners finish the season with a 57-4 record, becoming the fifth school to win multiple national titles. The Sooners won their last 13 games to close out the season.
Look back for more.
