Whether it is throwing 30-yard passes or hitting base hits through the middle of the diamond, Karson Klauer can do it all.

Klauer has shown a maturity that most sophomores don’t have. Not everyone can play quarterback for a football team during the fall and then play shortstop for the baseball team in the spring.

But Klauer has done just that and has excelled at both sports. He said he doesn’t have a preference of sport, he just wants to compete in whatever he does.

“It’s been fun,” Klauer said. “There has been a lot of good competition at the varsity level. I usually just try to keep myself in the game and not focus on anything.”

Klauer contributes his success to good coaching.

“The coaches have you doing something different every day,” Klauer said. “They help keep you on track and make sure you don’t stray too far from the line.”

One of Klauer’s goals was to be selected for the All-League team, but he said he didn’t know if he would make it after a slow start.

“I was hoping to get there, but I just wanted to try as hard as I could throughout the season,” Klauer said. “This season was not that bad for our team, but next season will be better because we have a lot of guys coming back.”

Klauer said he tried to focus a lot this season on his defense, which he said he felt was a little weak at the start of the season.

Klauer is playing with the ABA team in Monterey this summer.

In addition to summer football and the rigorous workouts, Klauer said he won’t have time to do anything else.
