Today Shadow Mountain Baptist Church is a regional legend, nearly unrecognizable from its earlier humble state. Freshly-painted buildings, well-maintained landscaping, and a vibrant, growing congregation are now located at the corner of Llagas Road and Hale Avenue. This amazing transformation is a South County success story.
On March 14, Shadow Mountain Baptist School will welcome local residents to an open house at their new campus, located at 17810 Monterey Road. From 10 a.m. to noon visitors will be able to visit the school’s facilities and meet with staff members.
The morning will feature many opportunities:
– displays of curriculum materials
– classroom and library visits
– refreshments
– jump house available for use by children while parents tour facilities and question teachers.
Founded in 2001, this is the school’s first year of operation at the new campus located next door to the Morgan Hill House. Enrollment is currently approximately 113 students in grades kindergarten through 12. There is an average class size of 13-14, an extended care program and a computer laboratory. It belongs to two Christian school associations.
The next day, March 15, Shadow Mountain Baptist Church will hold its own open house in same location, worshipping in the school’s auditorium for this special occasion. At 9:45 the morning will begin with refreshments, followed by a worship service at 10:30. The service will feature “majestic music” provided by choir and orchestrated accompaniment; a helpful message preached by the the church’s pastor, Kyle Haynes; and a “vibrant, friendly spirit.” Immediately following the service, all in attendance are invited to a free barbecue lunch.
Shadow Mountain normally holds worship service at its original site, 280 Llagas Road, less than a mile away. Because the congregation has outgrown its current facility, two Sunday morning services are held. Congregation leaders are planning to move worship services to the school property later this year because the usual 300-400 worshippers will then be able attend a single Sunday service together. At the back of the property there is ample room to build a large new worship center when additional funds become available.
Shadow Mountain Baptist Church offers numerous opportunities for the whole family:
– Adult worship in English and Spanish at 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m.,
– Children’s worship concurrent with adults,
– Sunday School for children of all ages at 10 a.m.,
– Six Sunday School classes for adults of “different life stages” at 10 a.m.
– Sunday evening service at 6 p.m.
