It’s been a good rain year down in South County, but a few April
showers are always welcome
It’s beginning to look a lot like spring around here! The grass
is tall and green and the wildflowers are blooming all over the
place. I even saw my first snake along the road side today. All we
need now is a few April showers and we will be in good shape.
This has been a very good rain year for all of us. We are well
over the 15 inch mark for the year. Alex Schmidt reported that they
have had over 18 inches for the year.

Congratulations to all the high school rodeo contestants who participated in the Challenge of Champions last weekend in Plymouth. It was a wet, muddy weekend but the kids all had a great time. A big congratulations goes out to Blaine Strohn for placing second in the team roping with his partner, Wyatt Witt. Blaine will be graduating this year and will be college rodeoing next year. The next rodeo for the high school kids will be April 9-10 at the Salinas Sports Complex in Salinas.

The King City Riding Club will be hosting the annual Grady Lafferty Memorial Junior Rodeo on April 10th in King City. Entries close this weekend so if you haven’t gotten an entry yet, contact the Salinas Valley Fairgrounds as soon as possible to get an entry.

The Salinas Valley Fair is right around the corner and entries for all exhibits close on today. The fair will run May 12-15th in King City. Besides the usual livestock and 4-H/FFA projects, the fair will again feature the Country Rodeo, Barrel Race and Bull Riding. For more information on any of the activities, contact the Salinas Valley Fair at 385-3243.

The San Benito County Cattlemen’s Association had another successful dinner dance last Saturday night at Bolado Park. Lots of folks were on hand to enjoy and delicious dinner followed by raffles and dancing. I haven’t heard yet who the lucky winner was of the reverse draw.
