The Balers were downed 69-33 by a Spirits club poised and talented in enough to make a serious run at the Central Coast Section Division IV title. Notre Dame went 10-0 in the Tri-County Athletic League and is now an impressive 24-2 overall.
The Balers were outscored 19-1 in the first period and never recovered. The Spirits outscored Hollister by five, six and six points, respectively, in the final three quarters.
Dani Andrewson, a promising sophomore, had 10 points and three steals for the Balers (16-10, 3-7). Sarah Groman had eight points, while Gina Caianiello had seven points.
Hollister was just 14-of-34 from the floor, 41 percent. From the free throw line, the Hollister shot 5-of-14, 36 percent.
The Spirits were led by Nicole Daye’s 19 points, Serena Benavente’s 16 and Jessica Ross’ 13.
The Balers will play in Division I in the CCS tournament. The pairings will be determined Sunday at 9 a.m.
