Sharkie, Mobile Shark Tank coming to Hollister
The San Jose Sharks, which donated equipment to help start an
NHL street hockey league at Veterans’ Memorial Park in Hollister,
are sending Sharkie and the Mobile Shark Tank to be a part of
YMCA’s Healthy Kids Day in Hollister April 25.
The YMCA of San Benito County is also having sign-ups for T-Ball
(program runs on Saturday’s for the months of April and May) for
those interested, ages two and a half to five-years-old. The YMCA
is offering sign-ups for the Youth Basketball program, which will
start Saturday, April 4, and run until the end of May; that program
is for ages first through fifth grade. The YMCA has introduced a
new program in indoor soccer for those in grades 6-8.

Barnstormers improve to 2-1 in NCFL play

The Central Coast Barnstormers improved to 2-1 overall in the Northern California Football League last weekend when they defeated the visiting Bay Area Buccaneers 24-10 in Gilroy.

Central Coast, which was coming off a 50-28 loss to the defending national champion Pacifica Islanders, is now tied for first place in the NCFL National Conference South with the Salinas Spartans and the California Warriors out of San Jose.

The South Bay Stallions, of Atherton, are 1-2 overall and in fourth place.

The Barnstormers will visit the Nor Cal Lawmen (2-1) of Pittsburg on Saturday, which are coming off a narrow 28-26 defeat against the Salinas Spartans. Kick-off is at 7 p.m., at Pittsburg High.

Rotary Club All-Star hoops game slated

The Salinas Steinbeck Rotary Club will host the Second Annual North-South High School All-Star Basketball Classic tonight, Friday, at the Boys & Girls Club in Salinas. The game will involve the top-graduating seniors from the Tri-County area playing their first college format basketball game.

The girls will play at 6 p.m., while the boys will tip-off at 7:30 p.m.

San Benito’s Dominic Zanella, Tim Von Urff, Vanessa Farias, Megan Halstead and Kelsey Russell were selected to play in tonight’s game.
