YMCA’s Healthy Kids
The YMCA of San Benito County invites the community to
participate in YMCA Healthy Kids Day, the nation’s largest health
day for children and families. The event, which will be free and
open to the public, will be held on April 25 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
at 339 Fifth Street in front of the YMCA.
Sharkie, mascot of the San Jose Sharks, will be in attendance
depending upon how the team does in the playoffs.
The YMCA has also introduced a new program in indoor soccer for
those in grades 6-8.

Big Sur International Marathon slated for April 26 along Hwy. 1 to Carmel
The Big Sur International Marathon will take place along Highway 1 from Big Sur to Carmel on Sunday, April 26. Six race categories include the marathon, marathon relay, 21-, 10.6- and 9-mile races as well as a 5K. Spectator viewing is easily accessible at the “Marathon Village” area at Rio Road and Highway One.
On Saturday, the Just Run! Just Kids 3K will take place at the Cannery Row area and along Pacific Grove coastline to Lover’s Point beginning at 8 a.m.

SBHS golf fundraiser slated for April 25
The San Benito High boys’ golf team will host a fundraiser on Saturday, April 25 at the Diablo Course at the Ridgemark Golf and Country Club in Hollister. Registration starts at 7:30 a.m., with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. Cost is $125 per person, or $500 for a foursome. Raffle prizes, a putting contest (separate fee of $5), a Tiger Hole ($5), a long-drive contest (included in cost) and a closest to the hole contest (included) will take place, as will a barbecue lunch to follow the round of golf. Barnstomers rout Sacramento, improve to 5-1
The Central Coast Barnstormers kept their lead on first place in the National Conference South last Saturday when it routed the visiting Sacramento Cobras 49-25 at the Garcia-Elder Sports Complex in Gilroy, and improved to 5-1 overall.
Central Coast will visit the North Division’s Oakland Vipers (1-5) Saturday at Oakland Technical High.
Allmendinger, RPM reach deal through 2010
Former Hollister resident and NASCAR driver A.J. Allmendinger signed a contract with Richard Petty Motorsports through the 2010 Sprint Cup season last Friday, according to the Associated Press.
The deal comes less than 10 days after RPM announced a sponsorship deal with Hunt Brothers Pizza that would allow Allmendinger to continue driving his No. 44 Dodge through the Sept. 12 race at the Richmond International Raceway in Virginia.
Hollister golfer runner-up at NCGA tourney
Ryan Han, of Hollister, shot a 152 (77-75) in the Boys’ First Flight at the NCGA Junior Tour Spring Series IV at Poplar Creek Golf Course in San Mateo last week. Han’s second-round 75 was five-over for the day, and placed him six strokes behind leader Richard Ayala of Hillsbourgh (146).
The Junior Tour Spring Series will continue this weekend at the Oakmont Golf Club in Santa Rosa.
