Classic American rock ‘n’ roll will shake the foundations the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk’s bandstand on the Fourth of July as the Classic Rock All-Stars perform live.

The All Stars show features four of the better known performers from some of the top bands of the 60s and 70s including Sugarloaf, Rare Earth, Iron Butterfly, and Cannibal and the Headhunters perform a cavalcade of hits as part of the series Pepsi Presents: Free Friday Night Bands on July 4.

“The All Stars are a perfect match for the fourth of July because their collective work represents a significant part of America’s rock ‘n’ roll history,” Promotions Director Paul Hammond said.

The All Stars include former Rare Earth singer, Peter Rivera, who is the drummer for the All-Stars.

Rare Earth recorded more than 17 albums and made Billboard’s top 10 list twice with“Get Ready,’ and “I Just Want To Celebrate.”

The All Stars’ founder and keyboardist is Jerry Corbetta, the former lead singer for Sugarloaf, which hit the top of the charts with the popular tunes “Green-Eyed Lady” and again with the cliche turned rock anthem, “Don’t Call Us We’ll Call You.”

Another All-Star is Mike Pinera, the former lead singer and guitarist for The Blues Image and Iron Butterfly.

Pinera’s first gold record for The Blues Image was “Ride Captain Ride.”

He then joined Iron Butterfly whose legendary hit, “In A Gadda Da Vida,” which stayed on the charts for 56 consecutive weeks.

Rounding out the quartet is Dennis Noda, formerly of Cannibal and the Headhunters, who made the leap to the top of the charts with “Land of a Thousand Dances.”

Moda also performed with such musical greats as Edwin Starr and Chuck Negron and served as music director for Micky Dolenz of the Monkees.

The Classic Rock All-Stars appear at 6:30 and 8:30 p.m. on the Boardwalk’s beach bandstand.

The two concerts will also have American Sign Language Interpreter Mo Moscovitz.

The free concert series continues through August 29.

Future performers include the Jefferson Starship, Tiffany, and Herman’s Hermits starring Peter Noone.

The series is sponsored by Pepsi, Comcast, U.C.S.C. Inn and Conference Center, TEVA, Producers Dairy, Santa Cruz Diner, and the Boardwalk.
