California’s unemployment rate declined to 6.9 percent in January, while the U.S. jobless rate dropped the following month, according to the California Employment Development Department and Bureau of Labor Statistics.
The labor department released key job figures Friday for February. The state released January numbers, though the state will not report specific county data until Tuesday.
In California, the rate dropped from 7.1 percent in December to the 6.9 percent figure. In January 2014, it was 8.1 percent.
Nationwide, the rate had edged up in January but declined from 5.7 percent to 5.5 percent in February, according to data.
Additionally, the number of Californians holding jobs was 17.62 million and increased by 54,000 from the December mark.
