Scott Smith, left, poses for photos in late May after San Benito High won its ninth CCS title in the last 10 years.

Scott Smith has not been retained as San Benito High’s softball coach. Under Smith, the Haybalers have enjoyed tremendous success, winning nine Central Coast Section Division I playoff championships in the last 10 years.
In May, Smith completed his 14th season as the Balers coach, culminating with a 8-5 win over Wilcox in the CCS Division I title game. After the season ended, Smith, who could not be reached for comment, said he still wanted to coach for two to three more years.
San Benito High Principal Todd Dearden had no comment on the matter, citing the inability of any of the school’s administration to comment on personnel matters.
