rather than cancellation. The Free Lance is also correct in
pointing out that Hollister/San Benito County should improve
economic development through increased cultural/heritage
tourism.

I agree with your editorial, “Fix the rally, don’t drop it” and concur that the event needs better planning and management rather than cancellation. The Free Lance is also correct in pointing out that Hollister/San Benito County should improve economic development through increased cultural/heritage tourism.
HIRC should consider rewarding nonprofit organizations with funding commensurate with participation in event management including citizen patrol committees of vendors booths to better audit sales taxes. Also, please consider writing a story about the Sturgis, North Dakota rally, its challenges and successes. Clearly, a juxtaposition of events might find solutions for Hollister’s issues.
I’m not a big fan of the rally in particular or claim to know how to run the event better than the status quo. But I do believe that business savvy and entrepreneurialism will find a way to increase public safety and improve fiscal revenues to the event itself. It’s the American way.
