Hollister – Police are reviewing surveillance video of three people suspected in an attempted robbery of Sam’s Liquor and an assault of a store clerk on Tuesday evening.

Officers were dispatched to the liquor store, 801 San Benito St., at 7:29pm Monday after receiving a call that three people had attempted to take a bottle of alcohol from the business, said officer Rosie Betanio, a police spokeswoman.

Authorities gave descriptions of suspects, including a 6-foot, 200-pound Hispanic man in his mid-20s with a ponytail wearing a black T-shirt and camouflage shorts; a 5-foot-seven-inch, 160-pound Hispanic man in his late-teens wearing a white T-shirt with green and red stripes; and a 5-foot-five-inch, 150-pound Hispanic woman in her mid-20s with long, wavy hair.

A 20-year-old store clerk recognized one of the people from a previous alcohol theft and attempted to stop them.

When confronted, the older man punched the clerk in his mouth, the younger male suspect hit the victim in his head with the liquor bottle and the woman also punched the man, Betanio said. The clerk was able to prevent the suspects from escaping with the bottle, police said.

After the altercation, the suspects fled the scene, Betanio said. The clerk suffered cuts to his lips and arms, police said.

There have been 27 robberies in Hollister through June, according to police records.

Anyone with information regarding the robbery is encouraged to call the Hollister Police Department at 831-636-4330.
