A true fan
My brother, Leo Thompson of Gilroy, regularly sends me Kate
Woods’ Report from the Badlands column, from which I get a lot of
enjoyment. I do have to wonder about those contaminated waters and
wonder why you don’t give Erin Brockovich a call to come up and
help you correct the problem (you know, sue someone’s backside
and give the proceeds to the poor).

Now, if you two tough cookies can’t do the job, I come to California often and, being a tough old broad myself, I could pitch in with some good, salty advice! And if that doesn’t work we could all journey over to the 19th Hole and sip Margaritas or something for the rest of the day!
Seriously, keep up your humorous, environmental drive. We all enjoy! And remember–I am available to come to New Idria, but you will have to put me up in one of the newer trailers, me with my arthritis and all, I need to enjoy the finer things in life. Just give me a yell and I will come running!

Pro-Denham
In your editorial regarding the election of State Senator-elect Jeff Denham, you are right about your profession. You, tongue-in-cheek, express guilt that the media is behind and supports negative advertising. You then proceed to trash and belittle Jeff Denham. The liberal media is in the pocket of the pro-homosexual, pro-abortion and anti-Christian movement. You place all the usual labels on the Republican candidates such as, pro-Life (Your side calls it “anti-choice”) and you call him anti-gay (I call it pro-traditional family values). I don’t think Sen. Denham cares with whom you sleep. Where was all this self-righteousness when Gray Davis was spending $68 million slandering Bill Simon? Rusty Arias was no saint. He did plenty of attack ads of his own. But because Rusty, Gray and you share the same politics, they get a pass. How biased is that?
You, the media are, for a large part, responsible for re-electing the worst governor in the history of the states. You will be responsible for the continued deterioration of our economy and job losses in this, the countries most business hostile state. You will be responsible for the 30 percent tax increase and the tripling of vehicle license fees, which is soon to come.
When this happens do not blame me, I voted Republican!

Denham supports gun rights
Tracie Cone complains about Denham’s “negative” campaigning, but fails to mention the same done by his opponents. Areias is responsible for the worst campaign mailer I have ever seen. During his previous failed attempt at State Senate against Bruce McPherson, he sent out a flier that had the reader looking
down the barrel of a gun. It accused gun owners of being “extremists”!
I remember when Areias was our assemblyman. When he began, he was decent.
But then, he sold out, becoming a slave to the Party because he is incapable
of making it in the real world – the private sector. He ran “the family farm
started by his father” into the ground. He and his Democrat kind legislate
one burden after another unto us, taking away our gun rights, increasing our
cost of living (spending the State into the largest deficit it has ever
seen), and trying to force private organizations to accept homosexuals.
I had the pleasure of meeting Denham when I was campaigning for him in 2000. He supports our Second Amendment rights, he is successful in the private sector, and he is not a slave to his party. Simon Salinas, whom you slavishly endorsed again this year, voted for the boundaries that put you in Denham’s district.
