Another creative mixture of new programming will be gracing the CMAP airwaves in the coming weeks. You may have noticed that we’re carrying the Panetta Lecture Series on Channels 17 and 20, and we’ve got an exciting new music series to introduce to you.

First, Panetta. For six years now, The Panetta Lecture Series has been held in the Steinbeck Forum at the Monterey Conference Center. The theme of this year’s series is (speaking of the blues) “Governing in Crisis – The Role of the Presidency, the Congress and The People.”

Guests will include Executive Washington editor of The Wall Street Journal Al Hunt; moderator of CNN’s The Capital Gang, Mark Shields; and former Speakers of the U.S. House of Representatives Tom Foley and Newt Gingrich; former presidential advisor and political consultant, James Carville; and former assistant to the President and counselor to the Vice President, Mary Matalin. Catch the episode with Foley and Gingrich on Monday at 8 p.m. on Hollister’s CityView 17. We’ll be posting air times for future episodes in the coming weeks.

Not that I’m bias or anything, but if we’re going to do a series of live music shows, let’s kick it off right! Next week, Mr. John Garcia and his band will perform on our premiere edition of South Valley Sounds, a live music show representing local bands and musicians.

South Valley Sounds will be 30 minutes of commercial free, entertaining live music and interviews with the musicians.

The idea is to promote our local music scene, and the artists who have to work very hard to get their name out there.

For John, this is good timing, as his CD release party at The Strand is around the corner.

Our studio crew is comprised of several volunteers and a few of my staff who I’ve wrangled into assisting me. (They know I’m supplying food. This bribe generally works if chocolate and coffee are involved.) I’m thrilled that one of the most talented people I know, Mr. Robert Landergren, will grace us with us presence by directing the show.

Landergren was actually on tour with Aerosmith last year as an assistant engineer/director for the video portion of their concert, and has engineered on The Today Show. Landergren directed and produced his brainchild, the music show out of Moe’s Alley in Santa Cruz called Roadkill, so this is right up his alley.

Should be a blast for the crew, and hopefully as entertaining for you viewers. Give us a buzz for South Valley Sounds air times, or keep checking the ol’ Web site for updates. The schedules are coming … The schedules are coming …

Want your own studio show? Our four-part studio workshop starts this Monday night. If you haven’t taken orientation and aren’t a member, you can attend Saturday’s orientation from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and then get signed up for the studio workshop. There are a few spots left, so give us a call: (408) 846-4983.
