Sweeping the doubles portion yet again on Tuesday against Palma, the San Benito boys’ tennis team was unable to find the edge in the singles category, as the visiting Chieftains swept singles en route to a 4-3 victory at the Ridgemark Golf and Country Club.
In a match that played out rather similarly to their previous match on March 10, when Palma outlasted the Balers by earning four wins in singles, the Chieftains again picked up everything they would need in singles to earn the match victory.

The closest bout came at No. 1 singles, where Palma’s Dominick Ottone defeated Jacob Garcia 7-6 (7-2) 6-2. But the Chieftains were able to take the remaining three singles matches much more comfortably.
“It was a good match, but they played better,” San Benito head coach Chris Yoder said.
At No. 2, Palma’s AJ Yatan topped Geoff Muzik 6-1, 6-1; Hunter Johnson beat Alex Reilly 6-2, 6-2; and Christian Benguard dispatched Travis Mills 6-0, 6-2.
The doubles category fared more in San Benito’s favor. Top pairing Kyle Skinner and Eric Johnson defeated Henry Mirassou and Christian Calinawa 6-0, 6-1; Brian Becerra and Sunny Singh did the same to Mitchell Huntington and Daniel Machado 6-3, 6-2; and Andrew and Jacob Panger won their match over Aengus Fanoe and Justin Samtaolo.
San Benito is now 5-2 in the Tri-County Athletic League, 6-4 overall.
The Balers will visit Salinas Thursday at 4 p.m.
