Kyle Skinner and Eric Johnson led the way at the No. 1 spot, defeating Eagles Jay Selim and Cody Masuen 6-0, 6-1, while teammates Sunny Singh and Brian Becerra followed suit by edging Brett Seggerman and Jose Ramirez 4-6, 6-1 and 11-9 in the third-set tiebreaker.
The Panger brothers of Andrew and Jacob then completed the doubles-pairing sweep for San Benito when they topped Alvarez’s JC Segudas and Daniel Lucio 6-0, 6-1.
In singles, things fared better for the Eagles, although not enough to pick up the team win. Alvarez’s top player in Jeremy Ortiz downed Baler Jacob Garcia 6-3, 7-6, while No. 2 Joel Munoz defeated San Benito’s Nick Trillo 6-2, 6-1.
However, those would be the lone wins for Alvarez on Tuesday.
San Benito picked up wins at the No. 3 and No. 4 singles position to clinch the victory. At No. 3, Geoff Muzik upended Conrad Contreras 6-3, 7-5, while teammate Alex Reilly did the same when he defeated Jacob Sanchez 6-2, 4-6 and 10-3 in the third-set tiebreaker.
The win evens San Benito’s record at 1-1 on the year. The team will return to the court today, Wednesday, for a home match against Sobrato.
Start time is 3:30 p.m. at the Ridgemark Golf and Country Club.
