San Benito delivered victories in each match, and did so somewhat commandingly. Only the No. 2 singles match went to a third-set tiebreaker, but even then, the Balers still came out on top.
Geoff Muzik edged David Lee 6-1, 1-6 and 10-8 in the tiebreaker of the No. 2 singles match, while San Benito earned victories in every other matchup by straight sets.
Jacob Garcia topped Sean Trando 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1; Alex Reilly defeated Khoi Hoang 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3; while Nick Trillo edged Albert Chen 7-6, 6-4 at No. 4.
In doubles, the Balers cruised to three straight-set victories. Kyle Skinner and Eric Johnson downed Jake Nissen and Gino Mininni 6-0, 6-1; Brian Becerra and Sunny Singh dispatched Joe Cho and Anthony Kuo 6-2, 6-2; and Jacob and Andrew Panger defeated Tony Mininni and Kevin Spears 6-1, 6-1.
Friday’s match against Monte Vista Christian was originally scheduled for Tuesday, April 19. But the two teams opted to move up the play date, as the Balers are currently on spring break this week.
San Benito’s next matches is scheduled for April 23 and 24 when it will host Carmel and Monterey, respectively.
