San Benito’s two doubles pairings remain alive after day one of the Tri-County Athletic League Tournament in Salinas.

The Lady Balers’ top doubles team and No. 1 seed overall in Vanessa Casalegno and Chelsea Yoakum received a first-round bye, then defeated Gilroy’s Meha Munshi and Alissa Castro 6-1, 6-2 in the quarterfinals.

Casalegno and Yoakum will now play in Tuesday’s semifinal round against Salinas’ Jaime McDonald and Kylie Knowles-Barnett.

San Benito’s other pairing in Erin Glasspool and Rachel Smith won their first-round match against Gilroy’s Elaina Vasquez and Melanie Morelos 6-3, 6-3, then beat Alisal’s Nicole Saldana and Genevieve Uruita 7-5, 6-1.

The Lady Baler duo advances to Tuesday’s semifinal round as a result, where they will play Salinas’ Kristin Shimizu and Audra Bell.

Tuesday’s second day, which will include both the semifinal and championship rounds, will begin at 12 p.m. at Salinas High.

San Benito’s singles players, however, did not advance to day two of TCALs.

Although Hayley Barker opened with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Gilroy’s Satthea Khay, she couldn’t overcome Notre Dame’s Brooke Carrachioli in the quarterfinal round, and was narrowly eliminated 6-3, 6-7 and 14-12 in the third-set tiebreaker.

Teammate Kristina Slavich, meanwhile, opened the day with a 6-2, 6-0 win against North Salinas’ Amanda Porrez, but lost in the quarterfinal round to Everett Alvarez’s Stephanie Rahiri 7-5, 7-6.
