on Wednesday.

Less than a week after falling to Live Oak by a narrow 4-3 margin, the San Benito High girls tennis team managed to return the favor to its Morgan Hill counterpart when it edged host Sobrato 4-3 on Wednesday.

The tennis match came down to the No. 3 doubles spot, and San Benito’s Olivia Diaz and Helene Escamilla defeated Sobrato’s Alicia Warren and Nemerta Chan 7-5, 6-0.

The victory by Diaz and Escamilla also provided the Lady Balers with a doubles sweep. At the No. 1 position, Vanessa Casalegno and Chelsea Yoakum defeated Katie Martin and Amy Morimoto 6-2, 6-1, while Erin Glasspool and Audrey Marshall teamed up to down Alyssa Warren and Allison Bettencourt 6-4, 6-3.

In singles, Sobrato picked up three matches. Alexa Watanabe upended San Benito’s Hayley Barker 6-0, 6-0; Allison Stoner defeated Kristina Slavich 6-1, 6-1; and Emerald Nguyen beat Alex Treolo 6-4, 6-3.

San Benito’s lone win in singles came in the No. 2 spot, where Rachel Smith topped Amanda Alipaz 6-2, 6-1.

San Benito (2-2) will visit Notre Dame Thursday at the Chamisal Tennis and Fitness Club in Salinas. Match time is 3:30 p.m.
