Swept in singles, the San Benito High girls tennis team fell 5-2 to host Aptos on Wednesday. It’s the Lady Balers’ first loss this week after they picked up victories against Monterey and Alisal on Monday and Tuesday, respectively.

San Benito (4-4, 1-1 TCAL) will play its fourth and final match of the week on Thursday when it visits North Salinas at 4 p.m.

On Wednesday, though, San Benito’s only victories came in doubles, where the No. 1 pairing of Vanessa Casalegno and Chelsea Yoakum remained undefeated on the season. San Benito’s top team trumped Aptos’ Natalia Podolsky and Rachel Riddick 6-3, 6-0.

At the No. 2 position, meanwhile, San Benito’s Erin Glasspool and Alex Triolo defeated Sandra Doyle and Sienna Owyang 6-2, 6-4.

Aptos was able to take the remaining five matches, however, including the No. 3 doubles spot where Jordi Wiseman and Serena Calcagno topped Danielle Dube and Alex Garcia 6-0, 6-0.

In singles, Mariner Erica Hoffman defeated Hayley Barker 6-2, 6-3; Haley Kepler beat San Benito’s Rachel Smith 6-0, 6-3; Katelyn Kampa beat Kristina Slavich 6-4, 6-1; and Grace Clark squeaked by Audrey Marshall 7-5, 6-4.

San Benito returns to TCAL action on Thursday at North Salinas.
