Behind a straight sweep in singles, the visiting Salinas girls tennis team defeated San Benito 6-1 Tuesday at the Ridgemark Golf and Country Club.
The Balers fall to 7-3 in the Tri-County Athletic League as a result, 9-6 overall, with two matches remaining in the regular season. San Benito, which will enjoy a bye on Thursday, is back on the court at Ridgemark next Tuesday against Gilroy.
Match time is 4 p.m.
Tuesday’s match against Salinas only saw the Balers earn one victory — at No. 1 doubles.
San Benito’s Erin Glasspool and Alex Triolo defeated Casey Watt and Melinda Obusada 6-2, 0-6 and 11-9 in the third-set tiebreaker.
The Cowboys, though, earned wins in the remaining six matches, including a straight sweep in singles.
Salinas’ Joy Johnson defeated Audrey Marshall 6-4, 6-4 at No. 1 singles; Taylor Schwartz topped Kristina Slavich 6-1, 6-3; Katie Gibbons beat Kelsey Slavich 6-2, 6-3; and Claire Varner defeated Alex Garcia 6-0, 6-1.
In the remaining two doubles matches, meanwhile, Cowboys Paige Zimmerman and Kalah Siegel defeated Olivia Diaz and Stephanie Slavin 6-1, 6-2, while Alissa Loftus and Ansley Grover beat Anne Tobias and Amanda Alvarez 6-3, 6-3.
In recent matches, San Benito defeated Alisal 6-1 on Oct. 7, beat Alvarez 5-2 on Oct. 12, and upended North Salinas 7-0 on Oct. 14. Additionally, the Balers lost to Notre Dame 6-1 in make-up match from Oct. 5.
