Dear Editor:

Was the Marvin Jones letter in the Free Lance, “Maybe SBC is a Banana Republic,” designed to paint Jamie De La Cruz and himself as gallant and noble to resemble those of the Three Musketeers?

It’s understandable that Marvin, chairman of the San Benito County Republican Party, would defend one of his Republican local alternates, De La Cruz. But at what cost? The pretty picture Marvin was trying to paint of De La Cruz, suspected in voter scam, is somewhat shady and puts a dim light on our local Republican Party.

Then wow! As I finished reading Marvin’s piece of fiction writing, I find the third musketeer seemed to be conveniently left out. That of course being none other than Ignacio Velazquez. As per newspaper accounts, Ignacio, also a Republican local alternate, was an active participant in the bound to be legendary “Great San Benito County Election Robbery.”

Through his diatribe, Marvin implies DA Sarsfield has a double standard. Now, Marvin presses to have this voter fraud judged in the court of public opinion, not a court of law. While this reads as if these Republican operatives took a page from Chicago’s Daley Democrat Party political machine manual on “How To Get Votes,” it also has all the earmarks of Jones, De La Cruz and Velazquez as wannabe Three Musketeers but in reality apes the Three Stooges.

As we patiently wait for this drama to be played out, I deeply hope the failings of these infamous three in our party are limited to what Marvin and Ignacio so passionately call, the SBC Banana Republic.
