Either the Brewers, Cardinals or Yankees could be in the
final
The Brewers, Cardinals and Yankees will be playing some more baseball this week.

All three teams won their games in the single-elimination District 9 Major Tournament of Champions over the weekend.

“One of the three Hollister teams will win it, mark my word,” said Yankees’ coach Robert Fabing.

The Brewers defeated Salinas National 8-0 on Saturday then eliminated their fellow Hollister A’s 5-2 on Sunday.

Four Brewer pitchers combined for the shutout in the first game. Jeff Jones pitched the first three innings and had two triples offensively. Daniel Arevalo pitched the fourth inning.

And Eddie Orozco and Oscar Ramirez pitched the final two innings and each went 2-for-2. Josh Woida and Ryan Jacob also had two hits.

In the Brewers’ second game, Eddie Orozco drove in all five runs to eliminate the A’s. He brought in three in the first with a double and two in the fourth with another double in the gap.

“We played a better team than us,” said A’s manager Mitch Burley, whose team finishes the season at 19-5. “They have a lot of people who can hurt you.”

Timmy Christensen, who went 2-for-4, went the first four innings for the Brewers, allowing an unearned run. Ramirez struck out the side in the fifth, and Arevalo finished it off in the sixth. He gave up a run on a fielder’s choice.

Kenny Sabatte pitched all six innings for the A’s. In the first inning, Josh Villegas hit a hard shot for the A’s, but shortstop Arevalo picked it off and turned a double play.

The A’s scored a pair of runs in the first inning of their 4-3 victory over Gonzales on Saturday.

And in the fifth inning, Eddie Vargas hit a triple, and Kenny Sabatte drove him in with a hit. Villegas had a double, but the A’s left the bases loaded.

Sabatte pitched the first inning and Vallen Shaw-Fuss pitched the final five.

The A’s needed some defensive gems in the bottom of the sixth for the win.

Ryan Bernal made a great play in right field as he twisted around and reached up to catch a ball and prevent a double. Josh Brooks at center threw out a runner at second base who hesitated rounding first just long enough for Brooks to gun him out. And Shaw-Fuss struck out the final batter.

For the Yankees, Will Cross hit a home run in the top of the sixth and pitched all six innings in the 4-1 victory over Continental on Saturday.

The Yankees scored three runs in the first inning. Nick Macadaeg and Trevor Fabing had base hits, and Kyle Vallejo brought them in with a double. Cross had an RBI for the third run.

Continental hit a leadoff home run in the first inning but then was blanked the rest of the way.

In the final inning with runners at first and third with two out, shortstop Trevor Fabing fielded a hard-hit ground ball and tagged second to end the game.

The Cardinals won a couple tight pitching duels. In the first game, they beat North County 2-0 and then beat Hartnell 2-1. Trevor Raisbeck pitched a solid six innings to pick up a victory.
