Make it three straight victories for the Hollister High boys soccer team. The Balers whipped Palma at the Salinas Sports Complex on Thursday 3-1.

The Balers, with back-to-back grinders with LIve Oak and Gilroy next week, are 3-2 in the Tri-County Athletic League and 6-2-1 overall.

“We’re coming along,” said Balers head coach Michael Warner. “We made some changes and we were on our heels early.”

The Chieftains scored in the fourth minute and held a 1-0 lead at the half. Brian Vargas brought the Balers even 1-1. Ernesto Lostanau hit Jonathan Alouso in stride and Alouso buried the game-winning goal. Willie Sanchez ripped a shot late in the match off a Baler corner and the insurance was provided. Very important insurance, according to Warner.

“Palma had some great opportunities late in the match,” said Warner. “We dodged a couple of bullets.”

Baler goalie Jorge Medina made two great saves off of direct kicks on top of the box to aid the Balers’ cause.

The Balers are at Live Oak on Tuesday 3:30 p.m. and host Gilroy a week from Saturday at 10 a.m.
