Here are some things to do in San Benito County this weekend.

Bone Off rib cook off: The fourth annual Bone Off rib cook off will be June 1 at the San Benito County Historical Park, in Tres Pinos. The amateur barbecue contest starts at 9 a.m., with judging at 3 p.m. for the 35 contestants. Admission is free. The event will include live music and games for the kids. There will be no food vendors so guests are encouraged to bring their own grill or use a community grill that will be available during the event. For more details, visit www.theboneoffbbq.com.

Summer Nights dinner dance: Jovenes De Antano will host “Summer Nights,” the 2nd annual dinner dance June 1, from 5:30 to 11 p.m., at the Veterans Memorial Building, 649 San Benito St. The event will feature music by Mark Russo and the Classy Cats, with Mary Blaser. Tickets are $35 per person. Tickets are available at Pennywise Drug Store, Casa de Fruta, She’s, Dona Esther Restaurant, and Jovenes de Antano. The event is sponsored by Jovenes de Antano Senior Services and Veterans of Foreign War Post 9242. Proceeds benefit senior residents. Details: Call 637-9275 for more information.

SJB Historical Society meeting: The San Juan Bautista Historical Society will host a meeting June 1, at Dona Esther’s Restaurant, at 11:30 a.m. The afternoon will include an annual meeting and a program with speaker Carmen Ruelas Von Tickner. Von Tickner who will share a book written by her sister Josephine Ruelas and published posthumously about her life growing up in the 1920s and into her senior years.

Local author book signing: Leta Rae Pereira, of Hollister, will have a signing of her book “The Message Maker” at Barns and Noble in Gilroy, 6825 Camino Arroyo, June 1, at 2 p.m. Pereira’s book includes poetry she says “offers messages composed from God.” Topics include forgiveness, trust, relationships, illness and more. The hardcover book sells for $33.95, paperback for $16.99 and the e-book for $3.99.

Joseph Zanger Memorial Dance: The Fifth Annual Joseph Zanger Memorial Country Dance will be June 2 at Casa de Fruta’s Country Park in honor of the man known in many dance circles as “The Spinner. Tickets are $5, with a country dance lesson starting at noon from Country Dance World Champions Glenn and Sue Cravalho before the floor opens up for more experienced dancers. Pat Eodice will serve as DJ with songs appropriate for two-stepping and line dancing around the floor. Details: 831-524-2834
