Swing by Ridgemark: Winners from ladies invite announced
By Bruce Lewis
A common theory on topped shots is that they’re caused by the
golfer’s inability to keep his or her head down. But what about the
topped shot that comes when you’re absolutely sure your head was
down?
Maybe you may have better hand-eye coordination than you think!
Last week, I gave a lesson to City Council Member Doug Emerson
because he was topping his full swing shots, and especially his
chips. I asked Doug what part of the golf ball he looked at during
his swing, and he said the top of the ball.

A common theory on topped shots is that they’re caused by the golfer’s inability to keep his or her head down. But what about the topped shot that comes when you’re absolutely sure your head was down?
Maybe you may have better hand-eye coordination than you think! Last week, I gave a lesson to City Council Member Doug Emerson because he was topping his full swing shots, and especially his chips. I asked Doug what part of the golf ball he looked at during his swing, and he said the top of the ball.
You could have the same problem as Doug if you are looking at the top of the ball rather than the back of the ball where you are trying to hit it. As soon as Doug started looking at the back of the ball, his topped and thin shots and chips were gone!
There is less than one half-inch difference between hitting the ball pure and topping your shot. If you continue to have problems with topped or thin shots, swing by Ridgemark and have one of our teaching professionals help you get back to striking the ball pure.
