Sheriff candidate Pat Turturici missed the Thursday deadline to submit the final campaign disclosure statement due before the Nov. 2 election.

Turturici, the county undersheriff, is facing Watsonville police Lt. Darren Thompson in the race. Thompson submitted his statement before the 5 p.m. deadline.

The San Benito County elections office fines candidates $10 for each day, up to $100 total, that the Form 460 documents are late, said Joe Paul Gonzalez, the head elections official.

“The treasurer just didn’t realize there was one so close to the election,” said Rick Rivas, a campaign consultant.

Rivas estimated the campaign would submit the statement before 5 p.m. today.

The last filing period before the Nov. 2 election covers a relatively short time frame, from Oct. 1 through Oct. 16. Thompson in his filing reported contributions of $1,969 for the period. He paid out $2,609 and had an ending cash balance of $3,250, according to his report. During the entire year, he had raised $34,715 and he had spent $31,572, he reported.

Through the prior filing period, which ended Sept. 30, Turturici had raised about $60,000 and had spent about $50,000.

For the final disclosure submission before the June primary, there were two candidates who filed late – Robert Rivas in his race for supervisor and Robert Scattini in vying for sheriff.
