All good things must one day come to an end. The Cubs of the Hollister National Little League AAA Minors Division suffered their first loss of the season Tuesday night as they fell to the Hollister American Little League AAA Twins 12-4 in a semifinal game of the District 9 Minors Tournament of Champions at Salinas National Park. The Cubs ended the season 17-1.

“We had a great season,” said Cubs manager Steve Carroll. “The Twins played a great game and they’ll represent the league well in the title game.”

The Twins battle a powerful Hartnell team tonight in Gonzales at 5:30 p.m. The Twins, though, showed some pop in the win over the Cubs, using a nine-run fourth inning to take over the game.

Trailing 4-3, Tyler Quinby’s two-run triple ignited the winning rally. It was Quinby’s second triple of the game. Conner Stevens also had a run-scoring triple for the Twins, who had eight hits in the inning. Tyler Pena contributed at the plate, as well, batting 2-3 with an RBI and a run scored.

The outburst made a winner out of Kevin Salvas, who pitched the final three innings, fanning five batters. Tucker Carrillo-Zazueta worked the first three innings and fanned six.

The win was surprising for the Twins had lost twice previously to the Cubs during the league season, the last game an 11-0 blow.

“That was probably our best game of the season,” said Carroll. “The Twins didn’t play that badly that day. We just played real well.”

In a game to decide the Hollister National Little League’s second place representative in the upcoming TOC’s at Vet’s Park, the Braves took care of the Marlins 8-3 Tuesday evening. Marcus Synegal hit a home run for the losers. The Braves take on the American A’s this Saturday at 9 a.m. The Orioles play North County this Friday at 5 p.m., while the Giants face Soledad this Friday at 7 p.m. as the District 9 Majors TOC’s commences.

In AA playoff action, the Red Sox won a wild 8-7 win over the Devil Rays Tuesday. The Red Sox were down 6-3 going into the fifth, but tallied five runs to go ahead 8-6. The Red Sox take on the Blue Jays this Saturday at 4:30 p.m. for the American League title.

The Mets meet the Marlins this Saturday for the AA National League title.

In the Farm A playoffs, the A’s defeated the Angels 9-5 Tuesday. The A’s take on tonight’s Rangers-White Sox winner in Saturday’s title game, which begins at 9 a.m.
