Doves offer hope for local cancer survivors

The Relay For Life committee hosted the annual “Paint the Town Purple” Day Tuesday to recognize community members who have survived cancer. At 5:30 p.m., a group gathered at the Veterans Memorial Building for a dove release to celebrate, honor and remember those affected by cancer. On the same day, Tres Pinos School students held a Relay Recess to raise money for the American Cancer Society and awareness about prevention strategies.

We arrived in New Zealand in July 2002 – winter in the Southern Hemisphere – and stayed in the Millennium Hotel, a fine lodging overlooking Cathedral Square in Christchurch, the South Island’s largest city.
