A pedestrian died after being struck by a vehicle on Highway 25 northwest of Hollister Aug. 31, according to authorities.
About 10:08pm, a Hollister woman was driving a Chrysler Town & Country northbound on Highway 25 just south of Wright Road, traveling about 55 mph, reads a press release from the California Highway Patrol. The state highway in this area is a straight, undivided highway with pedestrian crossings or sidewalks on either side of the roadway.
For an unknown reason, a male pedestrian walked from the east shoulder of Highway 25 directly into the path of the Chrysler, police said. The front of the Chrysler struck the pedestrian within the northbound lane of Highway 25, causing fatal injuries for the man on foot.
Emergency personnel responded and attempted to revive the pedestrian, but were unable to do so at the scene, according to CHP.
The man was not carrying any form of identification, and police were unable to identify him at the scene.
The San Benito County Coroner’s Office is investigating the identity of the deceased pedestrian, CHP said.
Police do not think alcohol or drugs were a factor in the collision.
