Union Pacific is installing 9.1 miles of new rail in the Hollister area and resurfacing 12 crossings, according to a spokesman with the company.
The $3.2 million in rail work is from Hollister in the McCray Street area to the Santa Clara County line, according to U.P. spokesman Mark Davis. The work started Jan. 5 and has an expected completion in mid-February.
According to the statement provided Friday by Davis:
“The work is being done as part of our annual maintenance work we do across our network. With the rail upgrade, we will be in a better position to handle heavier rail cars if the customers on the line decide to use them.”
Look back for more.
