The Mission San Juan Bautista, seen here in an undated file photo, provided the backdrop for Alfred Hitchcock's "Vertigo." Several scenes in the movie were filmed on location at the Mission.

Hollister – Preparations for a three-day event commemorating the filming of Alfred Hitchcock’s classic movie “Vertigo” are moving along, but organizers are looking for a little more help.

Fundraising chair Donna Guerra Howe, who dreamed up the celebration, said she’s still looking for volunteers, particularly someone who can lead the live auction of Hitchcock and film memorabilia, as well as anyone who’s willing to help with setup and cleanup.

The event marks the 50th anniversary of the filming of “Vertigo” and is scheduled to run Oct. 5-7 in Mission San Juan Bautista and elsewhere.

Some of the film’s key scenes were shot at Mission San Juan Bautista. The climax is set in the mission’s bell tower; however, the tower was actually torn down shortly before filming began, so a matte painting of the tower was inserted into footage during post-production.

One of the weekend’s features, a fundraising dinner for the mission, will be limited to 300 people. Howe said that if anyone wants to attend, they need to contact her by the end of April. The dinner will cost $150 per person.

The weekend will also feature a screening of “Vertigo,” a Mass in memory of Hitchcock and his wife, Alma, and a bus tour highlighting movie locations.

To volunteer or request a dinner invitation, e-mail Howe at bd*****@ao*.com.
