Veterans wave to the crowd as they ride down San Benito Street during the Veterans Day Parade Nov. 11.

Note: This is the first installment in a new feature focusing on veterans’ issues in San Benito County.
Hollister Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9242 and American Legion Post 69 are hosting two events for veterans and their families in December at the Veterans Memorial Building.
On December 14 at 2 p.m., there will be a potluck dinner for any veteran and family. Santa will be there and there will be gifts for children 10 years old and younger, so it is important that those who plan on coming and bringing children to contact VFW Post Commander, Bernie Ramirez, at [email protected] or call (831) 902-7811 to let him know if the child is a boy or girl. There is no cost for the dinner, other than bringing your favorite dish to share.
The second event is dinner, music and a no-host bar for all veterans and their spouses on Dec. 20. Festivities will begin at 5:30 p.m. Dinner is being catered by Dona Esther in San Juan Bautista, and the evening’s music will be provided by Old Habits. The cost is $25 for couples or $15 for individuals. Tickets can be purchased at the door, at the VFW Dug Out, or by contacting VFW Post Commander, Bernie Ramirez, American Legion Post Commander, at (831) 992-7811 or [email protected]; Joe Love at (408) 691-3691 or [email protected]; or Mike Pulido at (831) 637-6670.
