Volleyball: Anzar looks to rebound from tough 2013 season

The victories now push the Hawks to an 8-1 overall record and a 3-1 record in the Mission Trail Athletic League.

Last week, the Hawks won two matches in straight sets for the eighth time all season. The only time the Hawks have lost a set was in the seasons only lost to Santa Catalina School on Sept. 22. Since the loss, the Hawks have won six straight sets.

The team bounced back for its lone loss on Sept. 27 with a dominant game against Pacific Grove.

Led by Alex Flores, who had a game high 20 kills, the Hawks won the three sets by scores of 25-10, 25-17 and 25-6.

Sydnee Masuen led the team in assists with 18 and Mali Gonzales contributed 12 digs and 11 aces in the victory.

The Hawks continued their season-long dominance against Stevenson on Thursday – again winning in straight sets. Anzar won its three sets by scores of 25-13, 25-11 and 25-15.

Again, Flores led the team with 16 kills and eight digs. Gonzalez has 23 digs and two assists in the win. Masuen had 14 assists and nine digs.

Anzar will play at King City Tuesday starting at 6:30 p.m.
