For the second time in as many matches, the Gavilan College women’s volleyball team ended up on the winning side of a thrilling five-set adventure Friday night.
This time, the Rams avenged their lone loss in Coast Conference South play, picking up a critical victory over Ohlone College (21-25, 25-16, 25-20, 19-25, 15-8) to jump into first place all alone with three matches to play.
It is the 100th win or the program since it was re-established in 2005, head coach Kevin Kramer said.
An error-laden first set went to Ohlone, however, Gavilan’s offense found its groove in sets two and three and the Rams slid in front 2-1.
After a disappointing fourth set, the Rams (15-8 overall, 6-1 conference), energized by three kills and three digs from Vanessa Wilkins off the bench, rolled to the set and match win.
Kayce Skocko and Tasmin Apple recorded double-digit kills, landing 15 and 14, respectively. Sabina Gerard had 41 assists and 13 digs and Andreinna Castenada had four blocks and four kills in the middle.
