two-sets-to-none lead as the No. 5 Panthers eliminated No. 12
Gavilan in four games (25-12, 25-11, 21-25, 25-17) in the first
round of the women’s volleyball Northern California Regional
playoffs Tuesday night in Sacramento.

Sacramento City hit the court running, swiftly taking a two-sets-to-none lead as the No. 5 Panthers eliminated No. 12 Gavilan in four games (25-12, 25-11, 21-25, 25-17) in the first round of the women’s volleyball Northern California Regional playoffs Tuesday night in Sacramento.
“We had been working on a few new things and the girls were a little lost in Game 1, which shocked me because they have been really good in practice,” Gavilan head coach Kevin Kramer said.
The Rams managed their best effort in the third set to creep back into the match. However, the Panthers avoided a letdown and sealed the win.
“Things got rolling a little better in Game 3,” Kramer said. “Game 4 they just ran out of gas.”
Freshman Emily Tonascia posted a game-high 10 kills to accompany three blocks. Sophomore Jessica Rux contributed seven kills from her outside hitter position.
With her 11 digs Tuesday, sophomore Shayna Nakata set the single-season digs record with 428, surpassing Bri Romero.
Freshman Melissa Avila had 25 assists to claim the single-season mark in that category, finishing the season with 737 and eclipsing the previous record of 713 by Jamie Skocko.
