Editor,

In reply to the hit peace on Reb Monaco that was passed out recently about Reb having a Neanderthal attitude because he belongs to an all male group. I wonder if people realize just how many groups, clubs, and organizations there are in San Benito County that are regulated to one sex.

Just to mention a few, we have the local men and women’s golf groups, and I know that if a man tried to join the nine-hole group I am a part of, some of those (soft spoken and gentle) ladies would show him the door and more. Then of course we have the boosters, the gourmet club (all men, ladies), the Boy and Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, Brownies, Masonic Lodge, Odd Fellows, Knights of Columbus and, of course, we have the dreaded ladies of the Alter Society. These ladies have their own mission in life and know how to get there.

As far as laying all the lawsuits in San Benito County at Reb’s door, look at who is involved in most of them and I can guarantee you that it’s not Reb.

People like to complain about how San Benito County used to be a good ol’ boy county. Perhaps it was, but it was not a place I was embarrassed to grow up in, or be a part of, as all the in-fighting, lawsuits and dirty politics are now making it.

The egos of some of our elected officials are bigger than the whole county. Wake up and grow up. Do the job you were elected to do. Be part of the solution instead of whining, threatening and suing every time you think you have been wronged. There is this thing called working together and it is time our elected officials learned how to do this instead of criticizing and/or passing the buck.

Oh yes, and before I am brought to task for not mentioning it, yes I supported Reb Monaco and am proud to say so.
