A customer walks into the new Walgreens around noon on its first day in business in November.

The new Walgreens store in Hollister may have had a “soft opening” void of any big celebrations, but it didn’t stop customers from visiting the business on its first day Friday.
The store at the intersection of Airline Highway and Tres Pinos Road has been in development since the Hollister council approved sale of the land in February 2012. At the time, city officials had considered competing bids from developers intending to build respective Walgreens or Denny’s establishments.
The business decided to go with a soft opening instead of doing an abundance of promotion, but plans to hold a ribbon cutting at some point in January after the holidays, said Debbie Taylor, president of the San Benito County Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Bureau.
On Friday, the store was busy with customers during the lunch hour.
