Wet weather has washed out many contests this week at San Benito High and Gavilan College, as heavy rains have canceled or postponed seven matches in the Hollister and Gilroy areas since Saturday.
The most recent postponement was tonight’s scheduled baseball game for the San Benito Haybalers, which were slated to open the Mike Hazlett Tournament at Santa Clara’s Washington Park against Monterey at 7:30 p.m.
That game, which was postponed on Monday night as well, has been rescheduled for Thursday night at 7:30 p.m.
Meanwhile, the ‘Baler boys golf team was scheduled to play King City Tuesday, although that match was also rained out. Coaches were looking to reschedule the match, but no date was announced.
San Benito will play next Monday in their first Tri-County Athletic League Tournament at Corral de Tierra in Salinas at 3:30 p.m.
The boys tennis team’s match against Gilroy was also postponed Tuesday, although no make-up date has been announced. San Benito will visit Watsonville Thursday at 4 p.m.
At Gavilan College in Gilroy, the baseball team didn’t play Tuesday against San Francisco City College, while the softball team has had their last two games postponed due to inclement weather – at Sierra College on Saturday and at home to Hartnell College on Tuesday. Manager Nikki Dequin said they’re looking to get both games rescheduled for either the end of March or sometime in April.
