Dreams & Visions Community Development will host “Why Rent, When You Can Own?,” an affordable housing seminar, Jan. 29, from 10 a.m. to noon, 800 San Benito St., Ste. C.

“Our first joint Housing Expo event last year attracted a record turnout, as word quickly spread about the unique programs available to assist homebuyers,” said Holly McWhinnie, executive director for Dreams and Visions, in a press release. “To accommodate the growing interest in foreclosures and bank-owned properties, we’re hosting our second informational seminar that will connect even more first-time homebuyers to the dream of homeownership.”

The follow-up seminar will educate attendees about the many advantages of homeownership, including silent second mortgage loans for qualified first-time homebuyers, as well as individual development match savings accounts. Participants may also qualify for other grants and funding programs.

Participants will receive coaching, counseling and financial assistance, as well as help in navigating the home buying process, finding reputable lenders, realtors and locating homes for their families.

“This event is a great way to learn about the new opportunities and programs available,” McWhinnie said. “Attendees can find out information about the program requirements and the homebuyers process. They can also ask questions and get answers on the spot. If you’re looking for a home or thinking about one in the near future, this event is the best place to start.”

The event is free and open to the public, but due to limited space, individuals who are interested are asked to RSVP to 635-6813 or go online to www.DandVCD.org
