The Livestock and Land Program will host a workshop Saturday on how to manage horse properties in an environmentally-friendly way during the winter.

Planned topics include reducing mud and runoff, manure composting for small farms and natural insect and dust control. According to the San Benito Resource Conservation District, speakers will explain how to best take care of horses and horse facilities while at the same time improving water quality in creeks and streams.

The two main speakers will be Alayne Renee Bickle, founder of the Horses for Clean Water Program; and Peter Moon, president of PME/O2Compost.

The workshop will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the 101 Livestock Market in Aromas. The Livestock and Land Program, which is organizing the event, is a cooperative effort between the nonprofit group Ecology Action and the resource conservation districts of Santa Cruz, San Benito and Monterey counties.

To RSVP, call Angie Stuart at 831-464-2950.
