The reviews are in and Amazon.com has selected the original shows it will feature through its Prime Instant Video.
“Zombieland: The Series,” which featured Hollister native Kirk Ward as one of the main characters, was not among the five pilots selected for a full series when Amazon.com announced the shows it would pick up at the end of May.
In April, Amazon.com debuted 14 original pilots on its Prime Instant Video. Viewers were able to watch any of the pilots for free and write reviews of the series. It included six children’s shows and eight comedies.
The series that have been picked up include “Alpha House,” a political comedy that stars John Goodman and Mark Consuelos, and “Betas,” a comedy about four techies looking for an investor for their app. Three children’s series have also been picked up, including “Creative Galaxy,” “Annebots,” and “Tumbleaf.”
It is part of the movement toward streaming services creating original content for viewers. Based on viewership numbers, reviews and ratings, Amazon will decide which pilots will be picked up as a series.
The pilot of “Zombieland: The Series” picked up where the feature film left off, with new actors taking on the lead roles. Ward played the role of Tallahassee, who was played by Woody Harrelson in the movie. While the “Zombieland: The Series” pilot received a large number of views, it received an average star rating of 3.7 out of 5 stars, with more than 5,000 reviews.
Ward, who grew up in Hollister, has worked in Hollywood for the last 20 years.
