A 4.5 magnitude earthquake woke several area residents at 12:51
this morning.
A magnitude-4.5 earthquake jolted Hollister residents at 12:51 a.m. Wednesday.

The quake was centered six miles southeast of San Juan Bautista, and occurred at a depth of 5.2 miles, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. Residents in Hollister said after the initial jolt, the ground rolled for a while as well.

There were 16 aftershocks reported on the USGS website, including a magnitude-3.4 earthquake that occurred at 1 a.m. about five miles from San Juan Bautista. The last aftershock hit at 6:09 a.m.

As far as damage goes, there hasn’t been anything serious reported. Windmill Market in San Juan Bautista did not have any damage – nor did Penny Wise in downtown Hollister, according to employees at those stores.

It was felt as far away as San Jose.
