Drew Johnson’s “Another View” in the August 10 Free Lance gives his picture of Sustainable Development.  His description of the new sustainable home of 420 square feet is very compatible with the United Nation’s Agenda for the 21 Century, or just Agenda 21.
For example, Maurice Strong, Secretary General of the UN’s Rio Earth Summit in 1992 said, “…Current lifestyles and consumption patterns of the affluent middle class – involving high meat intake, use of fossil fuels, appliances, home and work air-conditioning, and suburban housing are not sustainable,” i.e. our way of life is not sustainable.
According to the UN’s Biodiversity Assessment Report, items for our everyday lives that are NOT sustainable include: “Ski runs, grazing of livestock, plowing of soil, building fences, industry, single family homes, paved and tarred roads, logging activities, dams and reservoirs, power line construction, and economic systems that fail to set proper value on the environment”.
President Bush (41) endorsed Agenda 21.  President Clinton established the Presidents Council on Sustainable Development.  And California has SB 375, “Sustainable Communities and Climate Protection Act of 2008.”
Hollister appears to be conforming to the Agenda 21 “Stack and Pack” residences with the Gateway Palms on Westside Boulevard.  And possibly the next one in the planning state on Line Street.
I use to think Agenda 21 was just a Conspiracy Theory.  I no longer thing it is a theory.
Marvin Jones, Hollister
