Passed away in Gilroy, California after a chronic illness. Ray is survived by his loving mother, Dorothy Hernandez of Gilroy; younger siblings, Jeannie Castillo of Gilroy; David Prieto of San Diego; and Rose Cabrera of Gilroy. He was the beloved uncle of Samuel A. Centeno, Jr. of Gilroy and great-uncle of Samuel Ray Centeno III of Gilroy. His many aunts, uncles, and cousins will also miss him.

Born in San Jose, raised in San Martin and Gilroy, lived in San Jose before returning to Gilroy. He attended Gilroy High and San Jose Job Corps and worked at Gilroy Foods. He was proud of his service to the community in the CDF and as a transporter for Outreach. He also worked as a crew leader for Corovan.

He enjoyed classic cars, sports, photography, fishing, music, and movies. He loved home cooking and family get-togethers. Ray inherited his mother’s green thumb and generous spirit. His mischievous smile and wry sense of humor warmed many hearts. He will be deeply missed.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 22,2011, at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel at Saint Mary’s Church in Gilroy. After the service, family and friends are welcome to visit at 7031 Rosanna St., Gilroy.
